12 Month Plan to Prepare Your Skin for Your Wedding Day

·

Before we step into the in’s and out’s of preparing your skin for your upcoming wedding, congratulations are in order, congratulations on your engagement! You’ve just made one giant step towards a lifetime of happiness with your lucky partner; in the coming months, you’re going to go through a whirlwind of planning and preparation for your big day, and we’re here to help you with your wedding skin preparation. One of the significant pressures of planning a wedding is the focus put on being the glowing bride & groom, but beauty doesn’t just run skin deep. With our wedding skin preparation timeline, we’ll be giving you tips and stress-management techniques. These tips won’t just ensure you’re looking your best but also that you’re feeling your best. We hope to give you the tools you need to put your best foot forward as you walk down the aisle to the love of your life. Don’t worry if you’re further or closer to the date than what’s written; it’s never too late to start.

12 MONTHS

So by now, we’ve hopefully got the date set and ready for the countdown. 12 months can seem like a lot of time, but in just 12 months, you’ll be spending the rest of your life with your loved one! Now’s the time to start focusing on finding a skincare routine. Trialling new products can require months of adjustment and experimentation, so do not leave this until the last minute.

The best approach to a good skincare routine is to first contact and book a skin consultation with a Living Skin Therapist. Everyone’s skin journey is different, and their skincare should be tailored to their individual needs. By booking a professional consultation, you’re able to skip a large amount of mucking about and get to the part where your skin can start to heal and repair. Usually, a skincare regime will include any combination of professional facials, masks, cleansers, mists, exfoliator, eye-creams and moisturiser. It’s also essential that you use sunscreen, and this doesn’t just apply to your wedding. A good sunscreen can shave off the years and protect your beautiful face well into your 1st, 5th and 10th wedding anniversaries.

Don’t just focus on your face though, remember to be kind to your skin all over and give yourself plenty of pampering to balance out all the stress. An excellent way to treat yourself and your skin is dry body brushing. Dry body brushing is the practice of using a brush like our all-natural Stass & Co Body Brush to gently brush your skin, exfoliating and increasing blood circulation. This has multiple benefits, including reducing cellulite and improving digestion, all whilst being vegan friendly. As always, don’t forget the sunscreen!

So we’ve covered the outer beauty, but what about inner beauty, and no, we don’t mean your stellar personality. Outer beauty is as dependent on diet and hydration as any other elements of our health, so in the lead-up to your wedding, it’s best to get into good habits early on. When we say diet, we don’t mean harmful crash diets; this preparation guide is about reducing stress, not adding to it.

This is the time to treat your body the way it deserves, and that means healthy snacking, essential fatty acids (commonly found in fish, nuts and plant oils), vegetables and plenty of water. Suppose you want some extra bang for your buck. In that case, it’s always worth investing in a good health supplement such as the Vita-Sol Flexibility Wholefood Powder. This formula is developed to boost the immune system and give your hair, skin and nails the support they need for that wedding day glow.

There are various quality foods to pick and choose from that can help nourish your skin and body preparing for your wedding; this may leave you feeling spoiled for choice. For assistance in selecting a suitable diet plan and identifying everything you need to meet your skincare goals, you may consider consulting with a naturopath. Naturopaths specialise in non-invasive natural assessments on health and wellness to help treat the root contributors.

6 MONTHS

6 months in, and with 6 to go, you’re probably starting to feel the pressure. Between balancing everyday life, ringing up vendors and handling bridal party dramas, the stress can begin to compound. Now’s the time to focus on your emotional wellbeing; remember, this is an exciting and beautiful milestone in your life. You’ve upped your water intake and your diet and are feeling physically better than ever. Reward yourself with a little bit of indulgence at social gatherings and events with a drink or two! Just remember, alcohol can dehydrate your skin. Be mindful of your water intake and get plenty of antioxidants and greens to keep your beautiful face glowing for each celebratory toast!

When we’re stressed, it’s important to practice mindfulness and self-care. Stress can negatively impact our mental and physical health, causing breakouts and weight gain if left unchecked. If your anxiety affects your sleep, you may consider a simple exercise regime to help burn off some of that adrenaline and sweat out the day’s worries. Not enough time to exercise? Then that means it’s time to start delegating. This wedding is for you and your partner. You both must participate in planning your big day, not just for your health but for the memory of this as a thing you did together as a soon-to-be wedded couple. Don’t just look to your partner for help; remember that you have a bridal party, family, and friends who are all cheering you on.

When it comes to your sleep routine, you need to consider if you actually have one. Sleep is a significant part of our body’s reparative process and a significant contributor to our mental restoration and consolidation. Don’t just hop into bed. Take some time to unwind and step away from wedding planning to focus on yourself. This could include drinking a calming tea, listening to relaxing music, practising meditation, taking a warm bath or using some aromatherapy. Little Company can help you with every step of your skin journey with a Little Sound, our carefully curated collection of meditation clips for blissful peacefulness. Show your body that you’re grateful for the things it does for you and shows yourself that it’s okay to unwind. It’s important to remember to take a step back from the mirror, shut off your phone and consider the importance of this day symbolically to you and your partner.

Extend your skincare routine into caring for your body with a night of restful and restorative sleep. You can improve the quality of your sleep, skin and hair by using a luxurious Penny and Bennett Silk Beauty Pillow to accompany your everyday regime. The Silk Beauty Pillow is a highly effective tool against acne, with silk providing proactive protection from moisture and dirt due to the increased absorbency of natural silk fibres. Getting a massage to help reduce built-up stress will not only benefit your mind but can also help rejuvenate your skin and immune system through improved circulation and detoxification. If your budget or time is a bit tight, you can experience luxury at home with a simple 10-minute facial massage using Activator 7 Facial Oil to give yourself a healthy and youthful glow.

3 MONTHS

With your skin, stress and diet down-pat, you’re closing in fast on the big day; take a moment to reflect on everything you’ve done to get here and on how fantastic you already look! Minimise stress by beginning to lock in and tick off all your final beauty appointments. This will help reduce any uncertainty and let you consider all the treatments you’ll want and when you’ll be enjoying them. If you are considering any new therapies or skincare items, now is the time to get them into play. Any closer to the date and you run the risk of last-minute allergies or breakouts.

If you’re considering getting a spray-tan, take this time to try the look so you’re ready for the big day and know you can trust the process.

Keep on top of your skincare and stress management with regular facials and at-home masks. Little Company offers two signature facial experiences at our Cremorne and Byron Bay locations, including the Ritual Facial and Remedy Facial. Suppose you’re looking to address some skin concerns or bolster your present skincare regime. In that case, you may want to consider the Remedy Facial. Alternatively, the Ritual Facial is tailored more towards an overall therapeutic experience, delving into the more profound emotional experience whilst still including deep massage techniques. Make sure to book well in advance, especially if you’re choosing Little Company, high quality skin clinics typically have a long waiting line. If visiting one of our locations is impossible, we also offer at-home facial packs for each in-store equivalent.

1 MONTH

All of your appointments are booked in; the day is closer than ever. With all the attention you’ve been giving to your own beauty, health and wellness, your bridal glow should have begun to truly set in. In this final month, continue to pay close attention to your body and listen to your emotions.

Be sure to steer away from any inflammatory foods such as processed foods and dairy to keep your body clean and healthy. Combine this with regular exercise and high water intake to continue to flush out and detoxify. There’ll be plenty of time for indulgence at the wedding.

1 WEEK

With one week left, you’ll be patting yourself on the back for all your hard work up until now. You’ve taken a monumental task and broken it up into nice little bits, all while looking absolutely gorgeous!

Reward yourself in this final week by getting one last massage to ease all those anxieties and stresses. If you’re getting a spray-tan, be sure to get any hair removal done 1 to 2 days beforehand, so everything goes smoothly.

In this last week, people will be popping bottles and giving toasts, but be mindful of your alcohol intake as it can cause a breakout. Have fun but in moderation!

3 DAYS

3...2...1! With all your t’s crossed and i’s dotted and the big day just around the corner, you might consider taking just one last facial to curb your nerves. Just be sure to take it 1 to 2 days before makeup; that way, your skin has settled. An indulgent mask can also help to achieve radiant skin in time for the wedding. Little Company offers the MV Signature Mineral Mask, a soothing option for all skin. Otherwise, stick to a mask you have tried in your previous skincare regime; we don’t want any last-minute breakouts.

Remember your sleep routine and stick to that ritual over the next few nights; you need your beauty sleep. Pair a restful sleep with some moisturising lip balm and an eye serum such as the Mukti Age Defiance Eye Serum. Eye serum will help minimise puffiness for the big day (though we’re sure some tears of happiness will be shed).

WEDDING DAY

Is that… wedding bells we can hear? You’ve made it! Take a deep breath and get ready for a beautiful day. Get excited, get happy, get nostalgic and get over to your makeup artist with your beautiful glowing face. Today all you need to do is make sure that your artist knows what skin routine you’ve been following and how they can work with that. They may prep your skin differently from what you’ve been doing, so take a minute to sit back and enjoy as they work on enhancing your fantastic effort.

Now all that’s left is happily ever after!
